Crooked Lake
This unique northern Michigan
waterway offers something for everyone and is a house boaters
dream with its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The Crooked
and Indian Rivers and Cheboygan Crooked, Burt and Mullet Lakes
make up the Inland Waterway, which features 40 miles of navigable
water.
Mullet Lake is 12 miles long and is especially known for its water-skiing and jet skiing. Burt Lake State Park, on the shores of Burt Lake, has 2,000 feet of sandy beaches ideal for swimming. On the south shore of Burt Lake stands the famous Cross in the Woods, the world's largest crucifix. Carved from a giant 55-foot California Redwood, the cross bears a seven foot bronze sculpture of Jesus. The Indian River, which connects Mullet Lake and Burt Lake, winds through wetlands full of wildlife.
Some of that wildlife consists of deer, raccoons, swans and bald eagles.
All waters of the Inland Waterway have great fishing with more than 17 species of fish, including trout, pike, bass, perch and walleye.
There are several shops on the shores of the Inland Waterway that beckon travelers to their shopping and dining facilities.
A full-service marina serves the lake from Oden, which is just a few miles from Lake Michigan's eastern shore.
